Youth and Government

Youth and Government

Youth & Government is a national program of the YMCA, which involves thousands of teens nationwide in state organized model government programs. Here in New Mexico, YMCA Youth & Government involves more than 250 teens from around the state in an effort to help them learn leadership skills, explore personal values and better understand the democratic process. The program provides a laboratory for student led activities. Any student in New Mexico is eligible to participate.

Each spring students come to Santa Fe and convene at the state capitol building for a model legislature and model supreme court. Students enroll at their prospective high schools and teacher advisors work with the YMCA Youth & Government program to ensure success. YMCA Youth & Government clubs meet throughout the school year.

Participants are charged modest fees to participate and much of the funding for the program comes from a private grant and contributions.

To learn more about how you or your student can get involved, contact the YMCA Youth & Government Office at (505) 271-5980.
